Submit an abstract

To explore the themes that will shape our exciting future world, the ASCE Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI) is co-locating the International Airfield and Highway Pavements Conference (Pavements 2025) with the International Conference on Transportation and Development (ICTD 2025) at the Renaissance Phoenix Glendale Hotel & Spa in Glendale, Arizona, June 8–11, 2025. Held in partnership with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), these conferences will include featured sessions organized by ADOT as part of the program.

This unique international conference collaboration will provide an exclusive opportunity to network, interact, and exchange information with worldwide leaders in the fields of transportation & development. It will bring together transportation systems and infrastructure practitioners and researchers, operations managers, project/construction managers, academics and students, government officials, engineers/planners/architects, consultants, contractors, and other transportation & development allied professionals from around the world.

The conference will include: plenary sessions including a public agency CEO panel, concurrent technical sessions/tracks, poster session, special programming for students and younger members, technical and sightseeing tours, workshops, awards luncheon, and networking receptions and events. 

Papers are optional for accepted abstracts; and approved final papers will be published in June 2025.

Abstract assignment for presentation at the conference

All abstracts will be reviewed by the program steering committee for consideration in the program as either a poster presentation or a podium presentation. When you are notified of your acceptance into the program, the steering committee will assign the abstract to either a podium presentation or a poster presentation.

Definitions and expectations for presentations & papers in the proceedings

  • PowerPoint presentation at the conference
    • Abstracts assigned for podium (PowerPoint) presentation at the conference will be required to assign a presenter to register for the conference and travel to Glendale to present in person. Presenters will be responsible for registration and travel expenses.
  • Poster presentation at the conference
    • Abstracts assigned for poster presentation at the conference will be required to assign a poster presenter to register for the conference and travel to Glendale to present in person. Presenters will be responsible for registration and travel expenses.
  • Presentation at the conference, with full paper in conference proceedings.
    • Abstracts accepted for presentation at the conference with a full paper in the conference proceedings will be required to assign a presenter to register for the conference and travel to Glendale to present in person.
    • Presenters will be responsible for registration and travel expenses.
    • Authors of accepted abstracts for papers will be required to submit an 8-12 page final paper by the posted deadline Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

General notes and requirements on submissions

  • Abstract submissions will be reviewed for decisions on acceptance. The Conference Steering Committee reserves the right to remove abstracts from a full session on technical grounds and/or add other submitted abstracts that are a better fit for the session. Presentations will be selected from the open call as well as by special invitation.
  • In cases where an abstract is submitted under a “paper” category, papers will only be included in conference proceedings upon meeting the requirements for final approval. 
  • A maximum of three submissions for podium presentation per speaker will be accepted.
  • If your submission is accepted under any submission category, you will be required to register for the conference by the speaker registration deadline and will be required to make a PowerPoint presentation (if approved for podium presentation) or display your poster (if approved for poster display) in your approved and assigned session. Registration by the speaker registration deadline is also a mandatory requirement for inclusion of a paper in the conference proceedings if submitted and approved.
  • For those intending to submit a paper for the conference, the allowable file type for papers is MS Word. PDFs are not allowed. All papers should be in accordance with ASCE’s paper formatting guidelines.
  • ASCE does not reimburse or pay the presenter's costs to attend the conference.

Proceedings

Proceedings will be published on June 8, 2025. Authors of accepted abstracts (who choose to submit papers) will be required to submit an 8-12 page final paper for inclusion in the proceedings. The paper should be in accordance with ASCE’s paper formatting guidelines. The proceedings will be published and copyrighted by ASCE. It is the author’s responsibility to obtain any necessary permissions or approvals from employers, project owners, or clients prior to submission of the final paper for publication. Material included in your submission from previously published sources, including online sources, may require permission from the copyright holder of that publication or website. It is the author’s responsibility to obtain permission for reuse of this material and to include the appropriate credit information in the paper.
